Belgium Intensifies Its Efforts Against Antimicrobial Resistance

Antimicrobial resistance is a major challenge for public health, the environment, and food safety. To address this issue, Belgium implemented the national “One Health” Action Plan 2020–2024, which concluded in December 2024. This plan enabled the coordination of key actions in the fields of human, animal, and environmental health.

Today, the FPS Public Health, in collaboration with its national partners, is working on the development of the new “One Health” national action plan for 2026–2030, aimed at intensifying the efforts already undertaken.

This new plan is currently undergoing political validation. And because your opinion matters, a public consultation is open from January 6 to March 6, 2026. This is an opportunity for everyone to share comments and suggestions on the upcoming plan. Your contribution is essential to strengthen the fight against antimicrobial resistance in Belgium. After this consultation, the plan will be submitted for final political validation and then published on the FPS Public Health website.
